Dion McCarthy, Architect, AIA, NCARB

Los Angeles

Dion grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan surrounded by the region’s rich architectural and industrial traditions. He attended the University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, and then Harvard University where he received his Master of Architecture degree.

Prior to graduate school, Dion worked at Koning Eizenberg Architecture in Santa Monica, where he completed a variety of projects, including the Ken Edwards Center in Santa Monica and the 5th and 6th Street Housing projects for the Community Corporation of Santa Monica.  After receiving his Master’s degree from Harvard University, Dion worked for de Bretteville and Polyzoides Architects on various projects including urban planning and housing prototypes for Playa Vista in Marina del Rey. In 1994, co-founded DesignARC LA Inc. with Mark Kirkhart.

Dion has been an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Southern California and been a part of review panels at the University of Southern California, the University of California Los Angeles, Arizona State University, the Southern California Institute of Architecture, and the Otis College of Art Design among other venues. He is a founding member of the architectural forum PLANE and a guest editor of RIBOT, a literary anthology.

Dion has designed and overseen numerous award-winning projects on the National, State and Local levels of the AIA, as well as other organizations in the fields of hospitality design, building design, and energy conservation. The range of commissions include academic buildings, commercial mixed-use and adaptive repurposing, multi-family residential and single-family residential estates.
